Safety First at Shooting Range

When last did you fire that handgun which has been in your safe for the past few years, and how old is that ammunition?

Well if you, like many other gun owners in the Helderberg, can't remember when last you fired your handgun or how old your ammunition is, your worries are over.
Okkie van der Merwe has opened a indoor shooting range in Gordon's Bay next to Gordon's Bay Fisheries in Link Road. The shooting tunnel and roof are build with double thick concrete blocks with sound proof material in between them. At the end of the tunnel is a bullet catcher and in front of this is a rubber curtain to stop ricochets. The floor is constructed of a meter thick sand and clay to further ensure safety. Targets are operated electronically by the shooter themselves, who can determine the distance that they want to shoot at. After buying a token from the gun shop, the target is live for 30 min, during which shooters can shoot as many rounds as they want.
There are five lanes in the tunnel which allows five shooters to shoot at a time.

The Range is SABS Accredited.

Firearms Competency Training

In terms of the Firearms Control Act, 2000, all existing firearm licenses would have had to be renewed as from 1 April 2004. Every person who applies for a firearm license, as well as a renewal of an existing firearm license, in South Africa will have to obtain a Firearm Competency Certificate at an accredited Institution.

The renewal of firearm licenses had to be done in the following scheduled fashion:

BIRTH MONTH RENEWAL PERIOD (This has expired and is for general knowledge purposes only.)

January to March January to December 2005

April to June January to December 2006

July to September January to December 2007

October to December January to December 2008

A person would have had to ALREADY be in possession of a valid competency certificate in order to renew their firearm license.

PLEASE TAKE NOT THAT THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROCESS HAS NOW EXPIRED AND NO RENEWAL OF LICENSES CAN BE DONE ANYMORE.
